Cheese is an incredible dairy product which many people love and enjoy its taste. Although it is related to weight gain and obesity, this product is very beneficial for longer lifespan as per a newly performed study by Netdoctor.
Cheese and Longer lifespan
The study by McMasters University in Canada included the participation of 130,000 people in the age group of 35 to 70 years old from 21 different countries. People who ate less than half a serving per day showed a 44.4% increase in their mortality rate, and 5% of it was as a result of a cardiovascular disease.
As per this conducted study, people who eat more than two servings of cheese a day are at lower risk of stroke and a cardiovascular disease. The same positive results were given for the consumption of yogurt and milk.
The lead author of the study, Dr. Mahshid Dehghan, maintains that these results revealed that the intake of dairy products can contribute to longer lifespan in people and lower risk of cardiovascular disease. This consumption can be very beneficial in low- and middle-income countries where the intake of dairy products is not that appreciated as in North America or Europe.
There more benefits of the consumption of cheese as per the study of Texas A & M University, namely ripe cheese can be very beneficial for your health of the liver. Cheddar cheese, parmesan and blue cheese can lower the risk of liver cancer due to the content of a compound known as spermidine. This compound is powerful enough to prevent the proliferation of cancer cells in the most common types of liver cancer, liver fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
However, experts still do not fully accept the results of the McMasters study as the ultimate discovery. Namely, Jimmy Chun Yu Louie of the University of Hong Kong believes that there should be further research done on the high benefits of the consumption of high-fat dairy products in the case of major cardiovascular disease and prevention of their terminal consequences.
He does not deter people from eating dairy products, but that they should be cautious about their consumption as this study is not an ultimate endorsement of replacing low-fat or skim-based equivalent products with whole dairy products.
The researchers at McMasters University also comply with this belief that there needs to be done more research on this matter and as well as determining why dairy products have this impact on cardiovascular disease.
Other Benefits of Cheese
There have been other scientific studies which reveal other benefits for our health as a result of cheese consumption.
Good digestive health
We are all aware that the intake of yogurt is very beneficial for our digestive health due to the content of probiotics. However, this is not the only dairy product that has in its content beneficial bacteria for our gut. Likewise, cheese contains good bacteria that can keep your digestive health.
Prevention of cavities
Cheese shows a high content of calcium which is essential for strong teeth. This dairy product contains lower lactose content and because of that does not harm the teeth. Therefore, make sure to consume cheese after a meal or as a snack and thus protect your teeth. We recommend the following cheese Cheddar, Swiss, Roquefort, Monterey jack, Brie, Gouda and American.
As per a 2015 Danish study conducted on the intake of cheese and the influence of the health of the teeth it was shown that children who consumed more dairy products had no caries, and the situation was still same after three years which was not the case with children with ate dairy products below average.
If you have an issue with gaining weight, then you should consider eating cheese as it contains fat, calcium, protein, vitamins and minerals. Cheese will help you to gain weight, and as well as muscle mass and bone density. This consumption will strengthen your muscles and bones while keeping a balanced metabolism.
People intolerant to lactose should avoid the intake of cheese. Lactose is a sugar found in cheese which cannot get digested by these people as they lack the enzyme that breaks it down. Therefore, its consumption in high quantities can lead to digestive issues like gas and bloating.
Likewise, this product is not recommended for people allergic to casein which is one of the main proteins found in milk. In this case, these people cannot even consume a low-lactose cheese.
